In the July 17, 2005 feature article, Art for the City's Sake, Alan J. Heavens lists the Performance Garage of one of the "flourishing arts enterprises" drawing newcomers to the city.
"This new center will provide a key contribution to the revitalization of Avenue of the Arts, North, serving as a community resource not only for artists, but for the hundreds of schoolchildren and residents for whom exposure to the arts is so vital."

" We were looking for a space that had a large, open studio with no pillars; room for offices and for future growth; and an accessible location. The Brandywine garage facility was perfect."
Originally a horse stable and automobile garage, the Performance Garage was renovated in December 2002 and transformed into a unique and versatile dance studio. (View images of our facade unvailing gala.)
Located at 1515 Brandywine street (between Spring Garden and Green streets) in Philadelphia, PA, the Performance Garage provides two studio spaces available 7 days a week for rent.
Studio A and Studio B, both situated on the first floor, have high ceilings, large windows, and solid mahogany carriage-house doors. The doors open for street access, making the loading of props and costumes easy. These studios are perfect for dance and theatrical rehearsals, productions, workshops, and auditions,
Studio A: This studio is an ideal setting for rehearsal, dance workshops, showings of new work, play readings, and performances.
It has a sprung Marley floor (38' wide by 36' deep) which is designed for bare feet and ballet slippers (certain sneakers allowed), and has three rows of risers that seat eight-six people.Amenities include a Kimball Vienna Series Grand Piano, high mirrors, three eight foot ballet barres, and full surround-sound equipment including CD player, DVD player, VCR, tape deck, and large screen TV. There is also an adjacent changing room with two bathrooms and showers.
Studio B: This studio is ideal for dance and performance rehearsals.
It has a sprung Marley floor (41' wide by 32' deep) designed for bare feet and ballet slippers and is column free with mirrors and wall mounted double height ballet barres.
Amenities include two bathrooms, one with shower, a hospitality area with a small kitchen (including dishwasher and refrigerator), and a sound system with CD and tape player.
