Jeanne Ruddy's love of the natural environment, concern for its protection and desire to share this passion with others are driving forces behind the creation of her current work, Ocean 1: Wetlands.

Spending several summers kayaking the ocean and salt marshes of New Jersey has informed her vision of the beauty of the grasses, their reaction to the winds and ever changing light. These and the variety of birds which visit this elemental world offer inspiration for Jeanne's choreography.

In preparation for this project Jeanne is currently meeting with researchers, reviewing wetland history, and immersing herself further in the ebbs and flows of this area.
Music is being composed to be incorporated with the movement of the dancers, with projected text, and with sill photography interlaced with video imagery.
This period will be followed with workshops and rehearsals exploring the essence of wetlands - beginning with the moist earth itself and surging upwards until dancers represent bird flight through glorious lifts.
Oceans 1:Wetlands will premier during JRD's 7th Concert Season at its home, The Performance Garage in April 2007.
