A Philadelphia First
For the first time ever, world famous choreographer, Susanne Linke accepted a guest invitation in Philadelphia at Jeanne Ruddy Dance, where she began creating an original work for company dancers, due to premier in April, 2008.
In Oct , she will conducted an exploratory workshop with the JRD dancers.
The German Society of PA (as part of their 325 year celebration) and Jeanne Ruddy Dance offered a lecture by Ms. Linke and demonstration resulting from the JRD workshop on October 6, 2007 at The German Society of PA.
Also honored were dancer/choreographers Brigitta Herrimann, Mansfried Fishbeck and Hellmut Gottschild, who share a 40-year connection to Susanne Linke, each having worked with her in their native Germany: Herrman and Gottschild through the Mary Wigman Studio (Gottschild was her teacher), and all three together in the last production of Gruppe Motion Berlin (1962-68) before coming to Philadelphia.
Once here the trio reestablished the German company as the Group Motion Dance Company, which is now directed by Manfried Fischbeck.
While they've since gone separate ways artistically,
all three have made immense contributions to the world of dance in Philadelphia
and beyond.
