JRD to perform at the Waterworks
Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 6:00 - 9:00
Jeanne Ruddy Dance has been invited to join the Women for the Waterworks in celebrating this restored Victorian treasure located behind the Philadelphia art museum on the banks of the Schuylkill.
Five of our company will perform "costumed site specific tableaus and movement surprises." as guests attend a Reception for South Gardens Opening with a VIP reception or stroll the gardens and Piazza. Guests are asked to dress in Victorian attire. The proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the restoration of the Gardens and Cliffside. To learn more, visit www.fairmountparkconservancy.org or call 215-988-9334.
The water works were built in 1815 and haled as a marvel of technology at the time. After years of neglect and the determined struggles of numerous civic groups the restoration is finally in the home stretch. The Fairmount Park Conservancy's Women for the Water Works has undertaken the development of the gardens beginning with Phase I , Cliff Paths linking the Restaurant to the Art Museum which is completed. Phase II is underway with the restoration of the South gardens and north/south trails. Phase III will provide links between the Water Works, The Philadelphia Art Museum and the Schuylkill Trail from center City to Valley Forge.

June 16, 17, and 18, 2005
Jeanne Ruddy Dance's 5th Anniversary Concert Season was presented at The Mandell Theater on Drexel University’s campus, 34th & Chestnut Streets, June 16 – 18, 2005. Featured were the world premiere of BREATHLESS -- a powerful new work by Jeanne Ruddy, and a restaging of two popular favorites from previous seasons – OUT OF THE MIST…ABOVE THE REAL, and SUITE REEL.
Powerful, haunting and disturbing, BREATHLESS was born out of Ruddy’s meditative exploration of the ominous, fearful qualities of water, and influenced by Theodore Dreiser’s classic masterwork, An American Tragedy. BREATHLESS explores the dark side of the American Dream that has become a harsh reality of contemporary life, and lays bare their doomed pursuit of love and success...
Ruddy’s collaboration with composer Jorge Cousineau, who created the original sound score, provided a new and challenging experience, as she choreographed in silence for the first time, prior to Cousineau shaping the sound to the dancers’ movement.
In a unique multi-media twist, the choreography placed the dancers in front of projections of ../images of water by noted photographer, Bob Emmott.
The production also heralded the introduction of new dancer Rick Callender, formerly with the Fort Worth Ballet.
In conjunction with the season opening, Jeanne Ruddy Dance partnered with Women’s Way, making the Friday, June 17 performance a benefit for their Domestic Abuse Agency.
