Donlin Foreman, (Co-Director/Choreographer
of Buglisi/Foreman Dance) with Ms. Jaqulyn Buglisi staged their dance/play, Runes
of the Heart, with text and narration by Foreman, to critical acclaim
at Lincoln Center. Foreman was commissioned by the Joyce Foundation to create Bare
to the Wall, which premiered at the Joyce Theater in the "Altogether
Different" series.
In his 20-year association with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Foreman was
coached and directed by Ms. Graham in every major role in the repertory. He has
been invited to perform at the White House and received the President's award
for Outstanding Achievement in the Performing Arts from the University of Montevallo.
In 1993, he received the National Arts Club's Helen Weiselberg Award.
His international career includes performances with the Feld Ballets NY; La Scala
Ballet, Milan; the International Dance Festival, Prague; and Jacques d’Ambroise’s
National Dance Institute, where he originated numerous roles.
His choreography is in the repertoires of La Scala Ballet, Ballet Theater of
Pennsylvania, The Ballet Nacional de Mexico, the Martha Graham Dance Company,
Dansproject in Copenhagen, among others. He has been commissioned to choreograph
Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and for The Ice Theater of New York, Black
Ice which premiered at Madison Square Garden.
He is featured in the WNET/Dance in America films, An Evening of Dance & Conversation
with Martha Graham, Clytemnestra, and Trailblazers of American Modern Dance.
Mr. Foreman is Associate Professor of Dance at Barnard College, Columbia University
and was Master Artist in Residence at the Atlantic Center for the Arts during
Spring 1999.
His first volume of poetic writings, Out of Martha’s House, was published
in 1992. He was featured in Dance Magazine, Dance Australia, Dance International
Spring 1999, and has recently published in Dance Teacher magazine and in Choreography
and Dance, an international journal. Mr. Foreman is also an appointed panelist
for the New York State Council for the Arts.
